Noureddine Chater was born in 1975 in Marrakesh, and trained as a sculptor. He worked as an Applied Arts teacher and eventually dedicate his time to painting. Chater’s paintings are devoted to calligraphy. His compositions are filled with gracefully encoded messages. From a distance the letters appear like flowers and secret signs. His playfulness with the graph is emphasized by his selection of colours. He is fond of natural hues and chooses vibrant shades for a more contemporary twist. The glyph predominates and symbolises both a point of entry and departure, and is a portal for an exploration of the sublime.
